In line with this year’s Dialogue theme “Creating a New Future,” we are pleased to present a discussion focused on Power Dynamics That Lead to Oppression. We will be joined by Heather Wightman, Executive Director of TPC grantee RIA House. During the evening we will learn about how various social and cultural structures can oppress certain groups of people, while benefiting others. The mission of RIA House is to stand with and support women affected by the commercial sex trade, and its associated exploitation, trafficking, and prostitution, by providing a range of community-based services.
Heather will be joined by Heather Perez-Arroyo of PAIR Project, a past TPC grantee. Heather is a lawyer and DEI representative for the organization. PAIR provides free legal services to asylum seekers and promotes the rights of detained immigrants through a number of programs.
Moderating the program will be Boston City Councilor Julia Mejia. An outspoken advocate for unspoken voices in her community, Councilor Mejia is enjoying lots of praise in her first year on the council. She will undoubtedly add a valuable perspective to the evening.
At TPC we are expanding the notion of philanthropy dialogues to encompass a broader view of systemic change beyond direct service. To that end, we will send out some optional readings ahead of the event as background information.
Please register today. We encourage you to invite a guest.
TPC is most grateful for our Lead Corporate Sponsor of Philanthropy Dialogues:
