Balancing Support for Immediate Needs and Systemic Change

With TPC’s grant season underway, join us for this very timely and relevant dialogue about how to approach support for immediate needs in our communities while also contributing to systemic change for lasting impacts. We will hear from two experienced practitioners who will help us to explore questions like: How can funders better recognize and understand the systems work nonprofits undertake? What sort of metrics around advocacy do organizations report to their funders? Why is it so important to have both micro-level work and advocacy efforts?

Charles Lerner is the founding executive director of Massachusetts Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) also was previously founding executive director of Boston (CASA), organizations that champion children in the state's child welfare system. His career trajectory spans the spectrum of nonprofit impact. 

Tanya Inwald is the Director of Programs at the Social Innovation Forum (SIF). SIF runs programs to connect funders and volunteers with nonprofits to grow social impact. Tanya oversees SIF's Accelerator Program for nonprofits and is also a board member at MA CASA. 

Charles and Tanya will share their expertise and experience. The conversation will be moderated by Susan Benford, the Immediate Past Chair of Philanos and a former TPC President.
